Kitchen Design Gallery Featured in 51st Annual Riverside Avondale Preservation Home Tour on Historic Copeland Street

Historic homes tell a captivating story. Preserving that narrative while updating a space for everyday living is a delicate art. Recently, Kitchen Design Gallery had the distinct honor of participating in the 51st Riverside Avondale Preservation Home Tour. We proudly showcased one of our favorite recent renovation projects on Copeland Street, inviting neighbors and visitors from across Northeast Florida to step directly into local history.

A Nod to Jacksonville’s Rich Heritage

The Copeland Street home carries a beautiful legacy. Originally constructed just after the Great Fire of Jacksonville in 1901, the property stands as a true testament to the city’s resilience and distinct architectural heritage. Our entire team along with the homeowners, The Yarboroughs, felt a deep responsibility to honor this history during the renovation process.

The primary goal was simple but ambitious: bring one of Northeast Florida’s architectural gems back to life. We wanted to keep the home’s timeless charm completely intact while thoughtfully updating the interior with modern elements.

Blending Timeless Charm with Modern Functionality

Transforming a century-old space requires a specific type of vision and precision. Historic kitchens often feature smaller footprints and unique structural quirks that demand highly creative solutions. Designed by our incredible Director of Sales and Design, Christie, this project focused heavily on optimizing the kitchen and the surrounding living spaces.

Christie carefully selected materials, finishes, and layout adjustments that deeply respected the original architecture. By incorporating custom cabinetry that maximizes hidden storage, integrating classic hardware, and making thoughtful lighting choices, we successfully married 1900s elegance with high-performance functionality. The final result is a kitchen space that looks like as authentic as the days of Theodore Roosevelt yet operates with all the modern conveniences necessary for cooking and entertaining family in 2026 and beyond.

A Community Celebration on Tour Day

The Riverside Avondale Preservation Home Tour remains a beloved local tradition. Being on-site during the weekend event was an absolute pleasure for our staff. We spent the days sharing specific design insights, answering questions, and connecting with everyone who toured the beautifully restored space.

“Being part of the Copeland Street home featured in the 51st Annual Home Tour is an incredible milestone for our team,” says Jeff Hoebelheinrich, owner of Kitchen Design Gallery. “We genuinely love the challenge of historic renovations. It allows us to preserve the distinct soul of a neighborhood while giving families a beautiful, highly functional space they can enjoy for decades to come.”

Mallory Hoebelheinrich, co-owner, echoed this exact sentiment regarding the community event. “Seeing the public’s reaction to the Copeland Street home was truly rewarding for all of us. We are so passionate about Jacksonville’s history, and restoring these beautiful architectural gems is a privilege we simply do not take lightly.”
